3 Guys & 3 Girls. Rome Day1, Jan 20

When we arrived in Rome, it was already dark (19th Jan).
Pdas who flew from Dublin arrived even later. But he was nice enough to make arrangements for a van to pick us up from the airport, knowing that we will get lost on our way to the apartment. hehe...

And the first thing we did when we entered the apartment was...........................

we took pictures!! hahaha!!!

Hungry kids gobbled down packets of instant noodles and bread. That was the easiest, fastest food we could find.

Planning for the next day's activity

The start of our trip was spent walking all the way from our apartment to Spagna. All because the metro was closed that day. The metro workers were on strike and they will only open the metro gates at 5PM that day. What a bummer eh...? But it was ok. Rome is a beautiful city. In each turn we saw different monuments, fountains, churches, etc. So here are all the photos we took along the way. It was kind of a blessing in disguise that the metro was closed. We get to see the whole Rome city (almost) on foot. But the downturn was that our feet were aching so bad by the end of the day. It felt like we were walking on nails.

Behind us is the Palatine Hill, which is where the emperor's palace was in the ancient Rome

Alip geram sbb metro tutup

Jumping scene. Eqa lambat la!

Colosseum, which we entered later that day

Walai risking his life to take our pictures.. hehe... thanks a bunch dude!! I love the sequence of pictures

Without him and his GPS, we would have gotten SO lost

LOL!!! Ann got shocked to see a Russian word in Rome. Looks like where ever we went, we never could avoid the great USSR. They are everywhere!! Even in Berlin.

Don't get me wrong. I put this up because the yellow Fendi thingies are so cute.

Piazza di Spagna aka Spanish Square was where we got ourselves free tours to several important sight-seeing places in the city. Well it did says free, but it’ll be more courteous to give a small amount of cash to the tour guide as a token of appreciation. But of course, you’re not obligated to.

At the Spanish Steps. Eqa's beg wanted to be a part of the picture hahaha!! Buat Walai bengang je...

Following the tour guide

Column of Marcus Aurelius in Piazza Colonna.
There are many of these kind of victory columns around Rome. They all looked the same to me.

I can't remember what this monument is called. But all I remember was that it was a gigantic monument. According to the guide, there is nothing inside. Nor it has any use. In other words, a waste of space....

Sunny Rome in winter... boy it was hot to walk around in boots.. haha

The last stop of our 12PM 'Colosseum Tour' was of course the Colosseum.
Bought our Roma Pass for 23 euro at the ticket booth inside the Colosseum. With this pass we get unlimited passes of busses, metro, and train , and we get to enter 2 museums for free.

The Colloseum was HUGE!!! This has gotta be one of the most astonishing places I’ve ever been to. But I felt kinda weird being there. When I learned about how the arena was actually being used in the Roman empire days and to learn that killing was sort of an entertainment for them, I felt disgusted.

After our visit to the Colosseum, we went to Spagna again, we arrived just in time for the 5PM City Centre tour. This time it was nice and cool, since it was already after sun set.

There were so many people at Trevi Fountain. It was difficult to take pictures without including strangers in our photos. But I guess everyone faced the same difficulties right?

Inside the Pantheon.
Formerly it was a temple for all Pagan Gods of ancient Rome. But after Christianity came to Rome, the Pope converted it into a church.

All of us dragged our aching feet back to the apartment after a long day of sight-seeing. Gosh... what a tiring day. My feet was hurting so bad, every step was a torture. But it was fun. Seeing things, experiencing new stuff, taking pictures... hehehe... we ‘cam-whores’ had gone wild!! HAHA!!
